Genus Discovered - Gardening the organic way

Genus Discovered - Gardening the organic way

Our Genus Discovered tour was all about focussing on showcasing real Genus customers and their amazing growing spaces, so we were really excited to meet Emma O’Neil the Head Gardener at Garden Organic.

Garden Organic promotes organic growing and composting, citizen science and research, and seed conservation through their Heritage Seed Library.  Their mission is to help you garden ‘the organic way’, using natural methods to promote healthy, productive, sustainable gardens.

Emma contacted us to say that since she got her first pair of Genus trousers, not only has she bought more, but so have lots of the team at Garden Organic too, as they love them so much!  Emma spends lots of her time outdoors maintaining the gardens here, so there’s lots of time spent on her knees, bending down, and at the moment… getting a bit wet, but not in her Genus gear!

It was fantastic to see the amazing work Emma and the team do and we learned that there are two core organic principles: good soil management, and diverse planting to encourage plenty of beneficial wildlife.  And keeping on top of the weeds!

Emma talked us through how more people can get into gardening organically by switching away from pesticides and chemicals, and using biological alternatives.  She also showed us her love of composting and good soil health and how she uses companion planting to make sure she has a bumper crop!

Every stop on our Genus Discovered tour receives a £100 Genus voucher to say a big thank you for allowing us to show off their space, and Emma told us she can’t wait to spend hers on some new Summer shorts from our Summer collection as that's what she was missing on those warmer days, she has winter covered.  You can hear from Emma herself and find out more benefits of organic gardening in the video below.
