The unexpected gardener - Lorraine Kelly

The unexpected gardener - Lorraine Kelly

The popular ITV broadcaster enjoys gardening and has talked about finding it a great form of escapism - particularly during stressful times like lockdown.  ‘It’s lovely to just get outside for a while.  I tend to pop in my earphones and listen to some uplifting music and really feel a sense of escapism’ she said in her weekly column for Hello magazine.  She even professes to enjoy weeding.  ‘There's a real sense of achievement to see those neat and tidy flowerbeds.’

Lorraine Kelly moved from Dundee to her riverside house in Buckinghamshire with her camera man husband Steve Smith, several years ago after their daughter Rosie left home, and has been transforming her house and garden since then.  The spacious lawn is perfect for her beloved dog Angus to run around and is surrounded by shrubs and borders.  Lorraine is particularly keen on spring bulbs for cheerful early colour with their smell and beauty lifting her spirits on cold mornings.  ‘There’s nothing like a burst of yellow daffodils to make you feel better,’ she said.

Near the house there’s a terrace enclosed with a wooden balustrade with a comfy-looking grey rattan corner sofa, where Lorraine can put her feet up, with a matching table for drinks.  While in another corner of the terrace there's a round rattan dining table and matching chairs to enjoy al fresco meals.  The garden also has a pretty pale blue wooden guest cabin which is styled with a rocking chair, sheepskin rug and log fire.  With so many places to be sociable, we imagine Lorraine’s garden is a hit with family and friends.
