Description
Created by owner Sue O’Neil, and head gardener and garden writer Joff Elphick, Field Cottage has grown into a garden shaped by skill, patience and curiosity.
A Year in a Cottage Garden gathers twelve months of Joff's weekly blogs, entitled In the Genus Garden, revealing the work, discoveries and shifting beauty of this Gloucestershire garden through the turning seasons.
Combining practical, seasonal gardening advice with horti’ anecdotes, plant folklore and insightful observations, the book is a love letter to the traditional English cottage garden. Sheltered herbaceous borders, raised vegetable beds, fruit cages, greenhouses, an orchard and a woodland garden make Field Cottage a place of remarkable variety.
From the start of spring in March through to the stillness of winter, and then again to the very first new year stirrings of life in the garden, readers are taken through sowing, planting, harvesting and planning, as the garden shifts and settles with the season.
